A good storyteller is like good sex

Yesterday at Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, Rebecca Eaton, Sherlock and Downton Abbey exec producer, was spot on during her seminar with West Wing Screenwriter Aaron Sorkin: 'A good storyteller is like good sex. When you’re in the hands of someone good, you just know it.'
 
And just like good sex, their session ‘Storytelling with Story Creators’ left you wanting more. Luckily, the focus on storytelling reaches it’s peak today [Wednesday], with no less than four seminars presenting on the subject. Our must-see is ‘The Art Of Storytelling On YouTube’ by YouTube and Dreamworks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg. 
 
Storytelling is doubtlessly the buzz word at this year’s Cannes festivals. Earlier this year at Dubai Lynx, MediaMonks explored the tales that toe the line between the camps of technological innovation and emotional engagement. This week at Cannes Lions, Rebecca and Aaron’s ‘Storytelling with Story Creators’ was accompanied by, amongst others, Twitter’s #Live Storytelling seminar on Sunday and Spike Jonze and Gaston Legorburu’s ‘Building Worlds With Technology and Story’ presentation on Monday. 
 
Spike Jonze provided valuable insights on the intersection of technology and storytelling, and the ways in which this intersection provides for new opportunities for businesses to ‘re-imagine the way we communicate with consumers- to build worlds, not ads’. A strong statement that shows that just like good sex, you have to master the basics before you can excel.
