The Insider wint Democratic Innovation Award

The Council of Europe heeft vandaag op de sluitingsdag van het World Forum for Democracy, de
Democratic Innovation Award toegekend aan het Russische dagblad The Insider. De Council beloont hiermee expliciet de onafhankelijke onderzoeksjournalistiek in Rusland. Roman Dobrokhotov is hoofdredacteur van The Insider.
Het forum bracht de afgelopen week 2000 partcipanten en 200 sprekers uit 80 landen bijeen waarbij met name politieke en media issues centraal stonden.
UIt het juryrapport: 'The Insider is an investigative newspaper that seeks to provide its readers with information about the current political, economic and social situation in Russia, while also promoting democratic values and shedding light on issues related to human rights and civil society. In addition, the Insider implements the “Antifake” project, with the objective of systematically debunking fake news in Russian media, and to help its audience to distinguish relevant information from fake news and propaganda.'
Naast The Insider waren ook genomineerd: The Aisle app (USA) en School for Creative Activism (USA).
